FAQ's - Paper Goods/Invitations

I get many questions about how the process works for ordering invitations and pricing. If you have any other questions, always feel free to contact me! You can comment here on the blog or drop me an e-mail.

FAQs

1.) What type of stationery can you make?

I make invitations for any event, wedding programs, save the date cards, announcements, table cards, place cards, thank you notes, and more.

2.) What is the process for ordering custom work?

First, leave a comment here or drop me an e-mail and let me know what you're interested in. I generally like to meet face to face to go over details and specifics. It also give me a chance to meet you and show you some examples so you can see them firsthand. However, if you cannot meet, we can confer over the phone or via e-mail.

If you decide to proceed, I will start working on your order. I'll send you an e-mail proof so that you can make changes or approve the design. Once the proof has been finalized, I will begin putting the invitations together. I'm happy to e-mail photos during the process so you can see what the final work will look like.

3.) What about payment?

I ask for a deposit of 50% of your order before work begins. I prefer cash or a cashier's check, however, I will accept a personal check. In the case that a personal check is written, I will not begin work until it has cleared. Once I have finished your project, I will ask for the final 50% of payment. At that point, your work will be either delivered to you or shipped.

4.) How much assembly will I need to do when the order is finished?

Your job will be to address the envelopes for your guests and place the invitations inside. The rest of the assembly will be finished before the invitations are delivered to you. However, I've worked with some people that wanted to stuff their own pocketfold invitations. If this is the case, I will assemble the pocketfold, but will leave the inserts separate for you.

5.) What is included in invitations?

This differs for the types of invitation. Here's the breakdown:
  • Single page invitations:
    - Invitation w/ printed envelope
    - Response card w/ printed envelope
    - Reception card (or, if a reception card is not needed, an insert of your choice)

  • Gatefold invitation:
    - Invitation w/ printed envelope
    - Response card w/ printed envelope
    - Reception card (or, if a reception card is not needed, an insert of your choice)

  • Z-fold Invitation:
    - Invitation w/ printed envelope
    - Response card w/ printed envelope
    - Reception card or other insert (this is actually attached to the final panel of the z-fold)

  • Pocketfold Invitation/Alternative Pocketfold:
    - Invitation w/ printed envelope
    - Response card w/ printed envelope
    - Customized tag for closing the invitation
    - 2 inserts of your choice
6.) What can cause extra costs to be incurred?
  • Specialty paper (vellum, hand pressed floral papers, scrapbooking paper, etc.)
  • Extra paper (layering with multiple layers)
  • Extra inserts
  • Color printing
  • Embellishments (brads, eyelets, ribbon, etc.)
7.) How much time do you need to make my project?

I prefer to have 2-1/2 to 3 months to complete your project. It's important to me that you have a polished final product, and ensuring that I have plenty of time to make it perfect is key. Remember, after you receive the project from me, you will still need to stuff the envelopes and address them. Give yourself enough time so that you can get them sent out according to your timeline.

8.) What should I think about before contacting you?

Many people come to me without a set idea of what they want. That's perfectly fine! I love sitting down with clients and helping them put together a vision. Here are a few things you can think about to get started:
  • The colors or theme you want for your event
  • Your personal style...there are plenty of galleries out there. Check them out and get an idea of what you're interested in. Since everything I do is customized for you, sizes, shapes, and styles can be modified to your taste.
  • Your budget
These are the most common questions that I get. Again, if there is something here that I am not addressing, please let me know. I'd be happy to answer any questions you may have.
